The 1947 Kenneth Arnold Sighting

These are the airplanes that Kenneth Arnold saw, through a temperature inversion, near Mt. Rainer on June 24th, 1947.

The planes were Navy A-7s, flown out of the Whidbey Island Naval Base in Washington.

The A-7 first flew in the Mid 1960's , so it would have been a bit difficult to have seen them in 1947 (rolls eyes) LOL!

We've been through this before...

The A7 was in production from 1946 on, and was designated by various sobriquets during its life.

We show the evolution at our UFo web-site, which is available to bona fide UFO researchers.

"we've been thru this before" yes, it appears the RRR group have been attempting to tie the A-7 into the Arnold sighting for a couple of years now, with little success in swaying opinion, since the actual plane itself still stubbornly insists on not having existed before 1964.

The A-7 was *not* in production from 1946. Cite one authority that backs up this assertion. Jane's doesn't have it, nor do any of my other textbooks, so where do you get this?

The monicker or designation "A-7" may have existed connected to other, pre-existing aircraft, but they are not going to be of the same design of the later jet which you display in the photograph. This is the great logical flaw in this theory that renders it unacceptable.

You are essentially saying that the A-7 design existed in multiple operational units 20 years before it has been historically understood to have been in production. You're saying the plane design was the same 20 years before it was openly announced. I don't wish to be rude but this is preposterous. It's a bigger conspiracy theory than the Groom Lake scenario. Additionally, it shows a lack of understanding of the process of aeronautical design progression and the origins of the specific plane design in the F-8 Crusader (which didn't fly before 1955).

Arnold (probably) didn't see flying saucers, but he didn't see these A-7s either.

MK2 and CHY,

If either of you are a recognizable UFO researcher (or known aviation expert), let us know and we'll provide access to our web-site where the Arnold sighting and the A7 connection are dealt with in depth

Recognized UFO researcher??? What on earth is that? Why is info that purportedly substantiates your claims only available for a few 'names'?

tsk tsk tsk, such snobbery!

Anonymous,

We'll explain this again...

There are a few bloggers, and one in particular, who have been taking material from our blogs and web-sites, and pretending it was gathered by them.

Most bloggers -- some are listed in our links at the right -- attribute their sources, but not all do that.

So when we open our files, we want to do so to persons who are trustworthy and decent.

If that's snobbery, so be it.
